Clinical Research
​Joanne Oates has participated in research addressing people's adjustment to spinal cord injury under the direction of Professor Ashley Craig. Joanne also participated in research funded by Lifetime Care and Support Authority in 2012 that was the basis of her Master of Philosophy (Medicine) through the University of Sydney (conferred in 2014). Her research has addressed the reality of caring for people in the community after severe neurotrauma, as well as the complexities of measuring and valuing care time. Current research involves collation and analysis of an extensive array of dust related illness data collected since 1999.

Joanne has presented her research at national OT conferences, industry advisory panels, professional development programs and has consulted on multi-disciplinary research and resource planning committees.

​Joanne Oates is a Certified Daring Way™ and Rising Strong™ Facilitator-Candidate.
​

The Daring Way™ and Rising Strong™ programs are highly experiential methodologies based on the research of Dr. Brené Brown. The method was designed for work with individuals, couples, families, work teams, and organisational leaders. It can be facilitated in clinical, educational, and professional settings.

 

The primary focus is on developing shame resilience skills and developing daily practices that transform the way we live, love, parent, and lead. Joanne is particularly interested in the application of these programs to assist people living with life limiting illness.

Brené is a research professor at the University of Houston and currently holds the Huffington Foundation – Brené Brown Endowed Chair.
